COURSE CONTENT

What You'll Learn

Every lesson is customized to your skill level and goals. Here's a look at what Captain Orly covers:

icon
Basic Boat Handling

Throttle control, steering, docking and casting off, close quarters maneuvering, and understanding how your vessel responds on the water.

icon
Navigation

Master chart reading, plotting a course, and using GPS alongside traditional navigation methods. You'll learn to confidently find your way and avoid hazards on the water.

icon
VHF Radio & Communication

Learn proper radio protocol, channel selection, and how to make routine and emergency calls (including Mayday procedures). Clear communication keeps you connected and safe on the water.

icon
Rules of the Road

Understand navigation rules, right-of-way, and how to read other vessels' actions to avoid collisions. This knowledge is essential for safely sharing waterways with other boaters.

icon
Safety & Emergency Procedures

Cover man-overboard response, fire safety, and how to handle mechanical or weather emergencies. You'll leave prepared to react calmly and correctly under pressure.

icon
Pre & Post Trip Inspection

Learn a thorough checklist for engine, safety equipment, and hull inspections before and after every outing. Catching small issues early prevents bigger problems on the water.

icon
Pre Trip Planning

Learn how to check weather, tides, and float plans before you ever leave the dock. Good planning is the foundation of a safe, successful trip.

icon
Advanced Techniques

For experienced boaters ready to refine docking in tight spaces, heavy weather handling, and night navigation. Sharpen skills that separate a good boater from a great one.
